November 6, 2024: I tried to help OpenAI fix ChatGPT. January 10, 2026: I'm sharing what I learned from their "No, thanks." I found what I thought was a critical bug, documented it, made a LinkedIn video, and sent it to OpenAI support with genuine excitement to collaborate. Their response taught me more than any acceptance would have.
Dataset: 50 GB. RAM: 7.7/8 GB (99%). Available memory: 327 MB. Project status: Out of control. Every tutorial said "Just run this on Google Colab with a small dataset!" But small dataset = poor results. Better results = more data. More data = my laptop barely breathing. Here's what I learned training a voice cloning model on 8GB RAM.
Yesterday my laptop died from 50GB. Today: "I'll just use Google Colab!" Narrator: The problem was NOT solved. 5% progress in 3 hours, 18 minutes runtime remaining, 60 hours needed total. The math: 18 days of babysitting Colab sessions vs. $10/month for Colab Pro. Free tier taught me that "free" always has constraints—you just trade local limits for cloud limits.
I tested Google Gemini with our Tamil short film "BCP" (Beyond Copy Paste). No subtitles, just pure Tamil dialogue. Within moments, Gemini didn't just transcribe it—it understood the context, emotion, and moral: "Use AI to understand, not just to copy." The irony? An AI explaining what my film about responsible AI use means. It rated our student production 9/10 for relatability, 10/10 for message.
CPU: 99%. Apps open: ZERO. Temperature: Portable heater. I thought my old Intel Pentium laptop was dying. Used CrystalDiskInfo—SSD perfect. Hardware fine. What's killing my system? Google Play Games for Windows, running silently at 75% CPU. 4X more than Chrome. The app everyone blames was innocent. Uninstalled it. CPU dropped 99% → 5%.
